Radley Balko on immigration crackdown in Colorado

From Hit & Run: "In Colorado, crackdowns on illegal immigration have caused a shortage of agricultural labor. So farmers have contracted with the state's Corrections Department to have prisoners bring in the harvest , at the slave wage of about 60 cents per day.

Better a convicted felon pick peppers at gunpoint than a willing, eager foreigner desperate to support his family. There's like, American culture and values at stake. Or something like that."

French ad for March of the Penguins

In France, "March of the Penguins" is called "March of the Emperors" (they're emperor penguins). This French ad is funny.

West Philly principal out

My father is quoted in this news story about how he helped bring down a bad principal (not your "pal") at West Philly High. You wouldn't believe how bad conditions had gotten there. I'll see if I can get a copy of the letter he sent to the union up here.
